This yarn is a 50% Chinese mulberry silk and 50% Tibetan yak undercoat (down).
Sport weight 20wp 300 metres/100 gram (approx) 4 ply
GAUGE: 24st/4in with 3.50mm needles
If you react to wool this might be worth a try! There isn't a sheep in sight. 3.50mm needles creates fabric which is slightly loose and suits garments that requie a drapey look. You could certainly go down 0.5mm in needle size from the suggested gauge and have a slightly more compact but substantial fabric which is not overcrowded.
Yak has many of the characteristics of cashmere, producing a smooth and soft fabric with lofty fibres, but with far less pilling. The silk content provides durability and adds to the smooth texture of the fabric.
This yarn is hand dyed and each skein will vary ever so slightly from the other. I recommend if you are making a project which needs more than one skein, you alternate yarn from each skein in each row.
