What a fun yarn this is ! natural dyeing is so amazing. I started with kid mohair locks soaking in soapy water a good hour. Walnuts contain their own tannins, so no mordant is needed. I cooked the walnuts to boiling, covered and let sit and soak a day. Then I poured this vat through a strainer to help keep the debri out of the fiber. To this strained vat I added a pound of Mohair. Cooked it to a boil and let cool. Lid on. I repeated this 6 times. 6 pounds of Mohair dyed all together. (this took several days, 4-5 ?) Set it out to dry. Now the fun part, after picking with my triple picker to open the locks I corespun a thick locky yarn. And the final hot water soak and scrub to remove any excess dye and to be sure the color you get is permanent. This yarn is so soft and beautiful. One skein will knit, crochet or weave a nice sized scarf or hat or mittens or small shawl. Remember I have free shipping on orders over 100.00 use code: freeship100 at checkout. Thanks for looking.
