This listing is for 1 oz of Pineapple Fiber as shown in the photo. This raw fiber has a very soft feel and lovely sheen. It is one of three up and coming Eco Fibers being developed by the textile industry - Pineapple, Banana, and Coconut. It is hoped the these Textile Fibers will reduce the amount of cotton (a very unsustainable fiber to produce) currently used in the making of textiles. Pineapple fibers are extracted from the leaves of the pineapple plant. Previously the leaves were discarded as waste. Since pineapple plants are already being grown for the pineapples, harvesting the leaf fibers for additional uses instead of discarding them makes a lot of sense. Pineapple fiber is a very versatile Plant Fiber with many uses - Fiber Arts being one of them.
Raw Pineapple Fiber isn't widely available in the US. I started purchasing the fiber from a supplier in India and recently began using this fiber to make some of my Bottle Brush Trees. I included a photo of a bottle brush tree made with this fiber to show you a finished product. The tree is not included in this listing. It occurred to me that there were likely other crafters out there who would enjoy working with this fiber and incorporating it into their beautiful fiber creations. This unique and gorgeous fiber can be used for Spinning, Weaving, Paper Making, Macrame, Doll Hair and any thing else you may think of.
