Kokopelli's Daughters Series Outfit # 135 "Flute Song of Naatsédlózii, the Roadrunner "
Among ancient southwestern North American petroglyphs is found a jaunty, humpbacked little character called Kokopelli. He is depicted wearing his feathered headband, dancing and playing a flute. Kokopelli is the embodiment of the joy of music and dancing. It was said his music that brought spring back after the long winter, warming, delighting and cheering both humans and animals who heard it.
Kokopelli is the inspiration for my new line of Native American southwestern style 18 inch doll outfits, which I call "Kokopelli's Daughters." Next to the drum and rattle, the flute is among the most revered and loved of Native American musical instrument. Each Flute Dancer outfit, therefore, has a darling little decorated wooden flute, just the right size for your doll to play! When you dress your doll in one of these outfits, she takes on the role of a spirit daughter of Kokopelli and will bring the joy of music and dance come into your home. Wearing this outfit, she will be ready to sing Naatsédlózii's song:
Song for Naatsédlózii, the Roadrunner Swift of foot and fast of mind Run, Naatsédlózii, run! Over sand and desert, far Run, Naatsédlózii, run! Catch the snake, outwit the hawk Play your games, sing your song Always cunning, always running Run, Naatsédlózii, run! J.C. Brewer
One of Kokopelli's favorite desert playmates is Naatsédlózii, the Roadrunner. Little Naatsé, as Kokopelli's has nicknamed this flightless desert bird, is known for his speed, in spite of his small size. It is said he can outrun a human. The bird is also very courageous. It will attack and eat snakes, including the deadly rattlesnake. Because of this, Naatsé is revered by Native American cultures and is a favorite pet of Kokopelli. The two often wander together, singing, dancing, and racing each other across the sand. In the latter, Naatsé always wins. But, alas, unlike other birds, he cannot sing a note and therefore must regretfully leave the music-making to his companion, the Master Flute Player. It is in honor of Little Naatsé that this outfit was designed and titled.
This listing is for a complete, handmade outfit, consisting of SEVEN pieces: 1) a tiered, pull-up SKIRT made of fabric with a vibrant southwestern style pattern, 2) a beaded HAIR CLIP bangle, 3) a soft, velveteen BLOUSE with a Velcro closing in back a NECKLACE, 4) a stretch BRACELET with a silver charm of a roadrunner, 5) a necklace with faux turquoise beads and a large silver pendant, 6) a pair of beaded MOCCASINS and, most importantly, 7) a little decorated wooden FLUTE.
