The first records of this mineral are dated back to 1765, but it received its current name only in 1985. They are beautiful, rich and understated, amber color, with shades of brown, white, red or green. It is an agatized material that fills in chambers of the Ammonite Lamberticeras sp. with a complex mix of iron & magnesium rich calcite (СаСО3), aragonite, pyrite, marl, chabazite and quartz. The veins of pyrite were originally the bone of the ammonite. Formed over 160 million years ago, Simbircite with pyrite is both a gemstone and fossil.
SIMBIRCITE is a very beautiful semi-transparent stone which has a nice amber color, with shades of brown, white, red or green. It was named after the city of Simbirsk (former Ulyanovsk) in Central Russia. The first records of this mineral are dated back to 1765, but it received its current name only in 1985. It is a conglomerate of calcite (СаСО3), marl, pyrite, and fragments of ammonites and other ancient sea life forms. It was mostly formed in Cretaceous period, 95-65 million years ago. Its hardness is 3.5 – 4.5. The color is caused mostly by the presence of iron or manganese.
