Medieval style glass bead whorl, spindle weight, handmade lampwork glass lacy design whorl bead. This is a bargain whorl- normally I would fit this under a larger glass whorl for extra weight, but it is a bit on the wonky side, so I am selling it here on its own as an extra decorative weight. It rides a little high on the stick for a small whorl; you will need at least 1 1/2 inches of blank space under your large glass whorl for it to fit under it correctly (1 3/4 in. would probably be better). Though it is a bit wonky on its own, it seems to work fairly well when added to a stick with a larger balanced whorl. Whorl has a mildly tapered hole. It has a rather lacy looking design in aqua and green all around.
Whorl weight~ 11 g; 15/16 in. diameter, 5/8 in. tall, hole is about 3/16 inch at largest end As stated above, top of this whorl end up about 1 1/2 inches above the tip of the stick. Please be sure the whorl is on right side up~ hole is mildly tapered to fit tapered stick.
Curious about how to use these ancient tools? You can read about them on my blog http://isinglassdesign.blogspot.com/2014/06/spindles-and-whorls-medieval-style.html
Watch some videos of them in action with simple instructions for use here. Video features my friend from missingspindle who know a lot about historical spindles and helped me with development of these. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjUCUOUGq_WC-sv2N_qfIhpJDi8LbR-9U
OOAK- Each glass whorl is individually handmade and one of a kind. Even I could never make another one exactly like it.
SRA #A39 (self-representing artist) art glass from Isinglass Design; all of my beads are handmade lampwork (flamework) glass made by me, properly kiln annealed and well cleaned. The glass used in this whorl is the same as that used to make glass beads in Italy (Murano).
