This is a vintage socket wrench set made by the Chicago MFG. & Distributing CO. in Chicago Illinois and based on various published references; the company appears to have remained in business until at least the 1940s. The patent date is March 10, 1914 for the wrench socket set. This set consists of a total of seventeen cast iron sockets, which consisting of 6 square sockets from size 5/8" up to 1 ", and 11 hexagon sockets from size 3/8” up to 1 1/4". The wrench is a one-way ratchet to reverse the direction the wrenh would be turned from one side to the other side. The ratchet is 9” long and is in excellent condition for its age. In addition, a 9” extension, which has not been twisted when, was being used. The universal joint is not with the set, if it had one. In addition, the wood box has a wood-strip that lines the inside of the box on three sides with holes for the sockets. This is one of the very earliest socket sets and is in good working order. There are two other tools in the set, which I do not know if they are part of the set or were add later on, one tool does fit the wrench. The box is not in the best of conduction and is constructed with finger jointed on the corners for strength and the box shows a lot of wear.
