Meet our NEW Farmhouse Trug Basket! Last fall, I set out to create a basket to safely hold the supplies for my knitting project. The result was a lovely basket in an oval shape with two handles to make it easy to move those supplies about. I love this new style so much that it has just been added to our Basket Collection. We're offering this basket in two sizes. The medium is perfect for young crafters or single skein projects. The large is ideally sized for larger projects and has plenty of room to hold your supplies safely with room to spare. This listing is for a large basket.
Large Farmhouse Trug Basket #1242 was handmade with a beautiful collection of fabrics. It features a lovely combination of solid and print fabrics in a range of blues, tan, brown, eggplant, and cream. These dreamy fabrics were stitched together with mushroom brown thread.
This basket is approximately 5 inches high. The top opening of this basket measures 9 inches wide by 15 inches long. The base is an oval measuring roughly 8 by 12 inches. This basket is ideally sized for larger projects and has plenty of room to hold your supplies safely with room to spare.
Each basket in The 1840 Farm Basket Collection comes with a hand signed product tag that includes the date that the basket was finished. Each basket is numbered and displayed in the photo gallery on our blog at http://1840farm.com/baskets/.
This coiled fabric basket will be made by hand at 1840 Farm. Each fabric strip is torn by hand before being wrapped around 100% cotton cording. The fabric wrapped cord is then coiled and stitched together using a zigzag stitch on our sewing machine. I continue to wrap the coil and shape the basket as it is stitched, ending in our trademark spiral design. Because the baskets are hand shaped, each one is a true original.
We use repurposed fabrics purchased at local charitable thrift stores to make our baskets. The purchase of these fabrics benefits local charities and gives back to the community. Your purchase will help to support the charitable organizations that provide these recycled fabrics for sale. We blend new fabrics and materials with the recycled fabric to create a pleasing color palette for each basket. Each basket has its own unique color pattern and slight variation in shape.
I make these baskets using the same technique my Great Grandmother used over 50 years ago. She lovingly transformed worn out clothing into useful household items that were used in their New England farmhouse. While her items were made for utility purposes, it is my goal to create beautiful handmade items that can serve a useful purpose in your home.
All of the baskets in our collection display the raw edge of the fabrics used to create it. They are handmade in our nonsmoking circa 1840's farmhouse.
Our fabric baskets can be cleaned by spot washing or in the gentle cycle of your washing machine. Gently reshape the basket while still damp and allow to air dry. Overturning the damp basket on top of a bowl will ensure that it retains its shape while drying.
This listing is for the basket only. Other items shown in the photographs are not included in the sale price. Those items were used for photographic purposes only. Their use was intended to show the utility and various uses of the basket.
