This MASSIVE Robou style holdfast is forged in fire to last a lifetime, serving the modern craftsman as it has served carpenters, joiners, and carvers for centuries. You will pass this tool down to your grandchildren. Sold singly, the price is per each.
Starting with a blank piece of 3/4" square mild steel, the blank is heated to a blistering orange heat, then a curve is established on the end. With further hammering, the curve is refined into a square corner, establishing the overall form of the tool, which is then sculpted into a curved upper bar and foot for holding the workpiece in place. The shank of the tool is then converted from square to round, by repeated hammer blows along and around the newly formed round shank. Not only is the shaft made round, but it's reduced in size to a nominal 11/16"; the facets plainly visible in the finished piece show the work of the 4-pound hammer that created it.
