This is a set of two different scherenschnitte paper cutting patterns that can be used to make intricate 3-D paper snowflake hanging ornaments. The two different snowflake patterns are shown in the photos.

1. Purchase the item.
2. After we receive your payment, the link to the two PDFs will be sent to you.

The download includes a PDF with instructions and a PDF with the two snowflake hanging ornament patterns. The PDF with the snowflake patterns is meant to be printed onto 8.5 x 11” paper at 100% size (printing at a smaller or larger percentage than 100% is not recommended). The snowflake pattern PDF can be printed onto the paper of your choice. For best results, however, the paper should be 60 pound cardstock paper (or close to 60 pound) so that you get nice, sturdy ornaments. The finished size of the actual ornaments ranges from approximately 5 1/4” diameter to 5 5/8" diameter.
The tools that you need to already own or that you must purchase separately in order to complete the ornaments are as follows: a good quality, very sharp, razor knife for cutting paper (such as an X-Acto Knife or a Westcott Craft Knife with a Titanium Bonded Blade), a sturdy sewing needle for hand sewing (the needle needs to be long and unable to be bent easily), sewing thread in a color of your choice (a total of 58" per snowflake), a ruler (or other similar thin, flat, rigid object to aid in folding the paper in half), a cutting mat or a thick cardboard scrap (approximately 10x14") that can be used as a cutting mat. A thimble is optional. None of these tools are included in the kit. Recommended for ages 14 and up.
To make the ornaments, you use the razor knife to cut out all the tiny shapes inside the perimeter of the snowflakes, then you cut around the perimeter of the snowflakes. The two matching halves to each snowflake are sewn together and folded open to produce a beautiful, 3-D paper snowflake ornament.
The ornaments can be hung on a Christmas tree, from the ceiling, or from a wreath, for example.
Scherenschnitte, the art of decorative paper cutting, is a fun and relaxing art form. The level of difficulty for this pattern is 'slightly' difficult. It is a beautiful craft project for older children and adults.
