Vintage Knitting Pattern for girl dolls first published in 1960s by Bellmans
I have scanned in this pattern which gives full and straightforward instructions for knitting a cape, trousers, jerkin, tammy (hat), handwarmer, bikini, dress and headscarf for a well dressed doll fully in the style of the 1960s. The clothes fit dolls of height 12, 15 and 18 inches tall, and require from 1/2 to 1 ball of 4 ply fingering yarn for each main garment, while the dress takes from 1 to 2 balls - the size of the balls is not mentioned, but in the UK in the 1960s balls of yarn almost always weighed 25g or 1 oz. This would seem an ideal project for using up stash. The needles required are a pair of 3.25 mm (old UK 10) (US 3) needles, with notions: short length of elastic, short zip, 4 buttons.
This pattern would suit a relative beginner knitter as all the garments are simply shaped and the instructions are concise, giving outfits which any little girl of the 21st century would love.
I have a large vintage pattern library of my own and inherited many patterns from my mother, grandmother and mother-in-law and am working to digitise them all to share with you.
This is a cute pattern. I have been looking for a cape pattern to knit and now I have found it.
