I created this motif to use as part of a larger freeform project. It measures 5” in diameter and could potentially be used as anything from a project embellishment to component of a large freeform project. The stitches and the shapes are quite versatile. They would be easy to modify as well as work into a larger project. It has great texture and dimension.
This flower is really a 3D piece. As such, some of the crocheting is a little unusual. It would look fantastic on a hat or a bag or even as a shoe clip. The tutorial includes step-by-step instructions and over 30 full-color pictures.
Although an intermediate familiarity with crochet is suggested this would be a great introduction to freeform. Its small and only uses four colors of yarn. I use existing stitches but in a slightly unconventional manner. I also include some general information about freeform and explanations of why I do certain things (tutorial is 8 pgs) and 14 full-color photos.
Since the tutorial focuses on freeform techniques and not so much on learning individual stitches I include only a written explanation of the following non-basic stitches/techniques. If you are unfamiliar with them you may need to locate a video or extensive photo tutorial focused solely on the stitch/technique There are lots of them available for free:
