This item is 10 very nice secondary feathers. They are super iridescent black, with reddish speckles and a golden quill in the middle. The shine on these is really very purplish instead of green or blue like most feathers. They are between 2.5 and 3.5 inches long.
I raise heritage breed chickens for eggs and slaughter the roosters for meat. It is really important to me to use and appreciate as much of the animal as possible and so I saved a lot of the feathers. If you need feathers from birds that were not killed, these will not work for you. I tried to price my feathers to reflect that. I'm aiming for an intermediate between feathers collected off the ground from living birds, and mass produced, factory farmed birds. I love my birds and take excellent care of them; they are raised organically and free range, cooped at night for predator protection, and we respect them to the very end. We processed about 30 roosters this year, and it is hard and it sucks and it is necessary for the financial viability of our project. We are a farm, we can't keep every rooster. It may be of interest for a potential buyer to know that one of our main focus points is on environmental sustainability, our home and farm are off-grid, we haul water, use only wood for heat and cooking, and have a solar panel for our few electric needs.
