Item details

The Broad Family of St John were early Canadian makers of tools as early as 1857. Their axes were extremely well made and known within the US as well. Shipbuilding was mostly done by hand and required numerous tools and axes. The company operated out of St Stephen, New Brunswick from 1883-1900.

This iconic ship’s carpenters axe is a Broad Axe with a chisel Edge, flat on one side. It is a fine Canadian example of a tool of quality workmanship, design, and purpose. This is potentially the original handle for the axe. Either way, it is very well crafted handle. No incorrect warps or cracks.

I realize that this is a piece that belongs with a true collector.

I am willing to entertain bulk orders to those who support my craft. I pay for the head, handle, leather, countless hours, and often charge 100$. Ultimately I cannot compete with the major Swedish axe producers. What you are getting from me is a hand worked for and finish, quality craftsmanship, and always high quality stamped steel.
