These old matte charcoal black beads were worn by the Turkana and Maasai tribes in the north part of Kenya. These tribes are two of the largest and most known tribes in Kenya and they are distinguished by their practice of traditional beliefs and values despite the challenges western influence places upon them. Turkana women adorn themselves with many elaborate layers of beads like this and are apart of their everyday dress. The amount and style of beadwork one wears represents their social status and class. Small chips, corrosion and pitting are the natural aged characteristics of these beautiful beads denoting their age.
These beads are mixed round shapes- some more round and some more cylindrical.

Our business is rooted in our love of hand craftsmanship, history, and authenticity. We work carefully to source items that are uniquely hand-made as well as hard to find vintage items from remote areas in Africa. Sourced from materials (such as recycled glass and metal) that use low impact, sustainable and ethical processes, we employ artisans and craftspeople in a place rich with bead making history.
We believe in supplying designers and collectors with the most beautiful handmade items that not only have a rich history, but will last for generations. We love these beads and we love seeing beads transform into beautiful jewelry designs. We source directly from the makers so our items are priced at wholesale, but we offer discount prices for bulk orders. Please send us a screenshot of orders over $300 and will send customized order with special discount.
