FAQs

I'm always amazed by what my customers find a use for veneers. From electric guitars, skateboard decks to lampshades. I welcome the requests. Please feel free to ask me questions. I'm always happy to advise anytime.

I always do my best to combine all veneer items into one carton when ever it's practical to do so. I typically ship all veneers rolled into a cylinder and wrapped with a layer of cardboard to prevent end splits. The cylinder is secured with stretch wrap. I then ship the veneers inside a sturdy cardboard box. Some veneers like Lacewood and highly figured woods do not bend well. I ship those in a flat package of very sturdy cardboard.

Unless otherwise stated my veneers are of the standard 0.6 ± 0.1mm (~1/42") thickness. On rare times I do get the 1/32nd and 1/16th thicknesses in domestic veneers to offer. I personally don't like to deal in them because they are much harder to ship. Please note I do get a few of the thinner 1/50th thickness veneers.

What you see on Etsy is only a tiny fraction of my inventory. I have a two other veneer selling locations. Since 96' I have been selling similar wood veneers on eBay under the eBay handle Thinwoodandoldtools. Chances are I have more of it and in larger sizes on eBay. And I have a website www.volpewoodworks.com. If you see something of interest from any them I will combine shipping if possible. Purchases have to be from the same day.

My unit of measurement is in inches. I typically under measure by 1/2 to 3/4 of a inch. When a veneer like a burl is an irregular shape I use white chalk to indicate what size of a cut I would reasonably expect to get at that point.

In the veneer industry veneers are graded A and AA. Yeah but that is for the commercial users. What can I expect to receive? My grading system is simple. If I wouldn't want to use it I won't sell it. Frankly I have so much of the good stuff I don't bother with veneers that need a lot of special prep to use. I really do my best to point out any defect such as voids, grain splits, stains.

Sequenced or consecutive sheets are how I sell them. So you can expect it unless otherwise stated. I would suggest you buy all the veneer needed plus 10% more in the same purchase. I can't guarantee the next sheets in your lot will still be in my inventory.

It's pretty simple. You pay I ship the next business day. I only use USPS mail.

Seems to be the most common question. I have actually made a video tutorial that explains this and more. Please watch the video I have a link to. OK, I know it's poorly narrated and mono tone but it does contain all the basic on using veneers.
