Fiver lines II - lampwork glass beads handmade by Rebecca Weddell
A set of five lampwork glass beads in a gorgeous combination of dark purple and turquoise. The beads have been arranged in tapering size order, with the largest in the centre. Four different designs feature in this set of beads, the smallest pair of which is pattern-matched - useful perhaps for an earring project.
This unusual set exploits some of the reactive properties of glass, with mottled wispy purple giving way to sharp-focus lines in deep turquoise over a cool pale blue base glass.
The beads were made on 1.6mm mandrels, and have been kiln-annealed for lasting strength. The smallest bead measures 13mm in diameter and 10.5mm from hole to hole. The centre bead measures 14.5mm in diameter and 11mm from hole to hole. Measurements are approximate.
Each bead is unique, having been made one by one at the torch flame in my hot-glass workshop in rural East Sussex. To find out more about the captivating craft of lampwork glass beadmaking, visit www.letfireinspire.co.uk
