• Briwax is made in England and is a blend of beeswax and carnauba wax (palm leaves) and has long been recognized by many professionals as the product of choice. It produces a semi-gloss luster that has a nice, inviting silky feel to the touch - unlike the brittle, hard feel of other sealers (lacquers, polyurethanes, etc.). It is commonly used as a maintenance, repair, or finishing wax for furniture, but Briwax is also used as a colorant or sealer for many materials to include ... concrete, marble, granite, plaster, stucco, metal, leather, fabric, and so on. In my shop - we have used over 100 cans of Briwax in the past 8 years and we turn to it frequently for our finishing needs and have found it to be an excellent choice for long-lasting, beautiful pieces of furniture.
• A color chart is included showing the ten different Briwax colors - where the color originates from colored pigments embedded in the wax. To create the perfect finish on your piece use stains on the base material and then a top coat of colored Briwax to create the final color.
• Along with your purchase - I will be more than happy to answer any application issues that you may have. Briwax paste wax is sold in a re-sealable 1 pound cans - where a "little bit goes a long way".
1) Why should you use a paste wax to maintain furniture finishes? Paste wax is the ideal finishing agent to preserve, color, or protect your furniture. The experts will tell you oils and sprays create a "wet shine" on furniture, but they don't really create a protective barrier - rather they attract airborne dust and contaminants to your furniture and then they eventually dry out. With heavy use, oils and sprays (like English Oil or Pledge spray) will also eventually destabilize the base finish and potentially turn it into a gooey, tacky mess that has to be stripped and refinished. The general consensus is that you should dust whenever you need to with a damp (water) cloth to clean furniture and that about once a year you should rewax your fine furniture. Wax adds a soft protective film to the furniture that slowly rubs off and has to be replaced.
2) I ordered a can of Briwax but when it arrived it was a liquid in the can? That's normal - Briwax has a low melting point (between 80 and 90 degrees F). But, turning into a liquid does not damage the wax and if you cool it down it will revert to a paste. However - you should note that many people prefer to apply the wax in liquid form and they use a small heating pad to melt the wax before use claiming that a "warm" wax is easier to apply and to get complete coverage.
3) How should I apply Briwax? Everyone has there own technique. What we do in our shop is to buff on the wax in a circular motion designed to get the wax into every "nook and crany" of the surface. Then we wait about 15 minutes for the wax to set up. Then we buff it off. In terms of a buffing cloth ... anything clean with some roughness to it will do - one of my favorites is old blue jeans that were headed to the garbage can and instead were cut into 8" square for wax buffing. When you are almost - but, not completely through with buffing use a shop rag and buff in the direction of the grain to make sure you don't leave wax "swirl marks" in your finish. The trick here is to not overapply wax ... remember, a little bit goes a long way. Too much wax on the surface just means you wasted some wax and it means you will be buffing longer. The way to tell your through with buffing is to get a clean shop rag and run it over the surface with moderate pressure. If your still getting wax on your rag ... then your not through buffing.
1) Shipment timing ... for smaller items we plan to ship no more than 3 days after order entry. For our larger and custom items, they are made to order and will ship depending on our quoted lead time. 2) Geography ... the standard US shipping costs refers to the contiguous 48 United States .. not including Alaska and Hawaii. If a shipping rate for your location is not listed, please contact us and we will quickly quote you a shipping cost. 3) Expedited shipments ... are available if you will notify us at time of order placement and are willing to pay "expedited" charges. 4) Gifts ... we will ship to the gifted address and can include a handwritten gift note if desired - no charge for this service. 5) Transit damage ... if an item is damaged in shipment - we will expedite a replacement to you, but we will need your help to create a claim against the carrier by providing pictures of the damage, repackaging the item as best you can, and making the item available for pickup by our carrier. Please do not fully unwrap a damaged item, nor throw away the packaging.
1) Lead time ... most of our large items are made to order. We are currently estimating 18 calendar days for framed mirrors / serving trays and 28 calendar days for furniture. 2) Payment submission ... we have 2 payment options: (a) in full up front or (b) 50% down payment and 50% upon completion. 3) Order cancellation ... orders can be cancelled up to the point that we begin to build your item. If you want to cancel your order - please contact us as soon as possible. 4) 50% down payment ... if a client places an order for a custom item and pays a 50% down payment ... but, then later fails to pay the final balance after the item is complete ... then the client will forfeit their 50% down payment and the custom item will not be shipped.
Returns & exchanges
1) Refunds ... if there was an error that was our fault - then we will refund you the full purchase price and provide a return shipping label or offer you a replacement item. But - you have 15 days from point of receipt to execute this offer. We will credit your account upon receipt of the undamaged returned product ... to include original purchase price plus original shipping cost. 2) Returns ... for standard inventory items - you have 15 days to return an undamaged item for a refund of the original purchase price (only) ... the cost of shipping to you will not be refunded and the cost of return shipping will be your responsibility. For custom items - they generally are not returnable ... unless there are workmanship or transit damage issues - in which case, you should contact us directly to discuss resolution.
