Azalea from outdoor var. "Ghiffa". Very old variety, coming from the Lombard Lakes Area (northern Italy). I don't know the origins of hybridization.
Azalea with fragile appearance, with disordered branches that at the end of winter often occur with few leaves. It always gives rise to a little apprehension in those who cultivate it for fear of irreparable damage. Then, even before producing new leaves, it produces the flower buds that open revealing white petals shaded of violet in a not very large flower, about 2 "-3" inches. The color then fades in white, towards the end of flowering.
The leaves are hairy, soft and of a beautiful light green. It's actually a very cold-resistant variety. It suffers perhaps much more the drought and the presence of foliar mushrooms (we recommend a treatment with Valenzuela during the green growth and eventually in the leaf emergency, before the flowering not to color the flowers of blue, directly treating also the Clod To remove any fungal spores).
Early flowering, end of March in my garden. Beautiful and delicate color, is enhanced by the twilight.
The plants are part of a personal collection, for hobby and great passion in time selected, multiplied and cultivated by me under shady network outdoors, without forcing. Do not use nanizzanti to force flowering.
The name and characteristics refer to the classification of Prof. Fred C. Galle in the book "Azaleas" Oregon. The photos of the flower and potted plants are of my mother plant and of the plants put up for sale.
The cuttings are shipped with a ground bread corresponding to the 14 cm vase, a compact plate ready to be transplanted into the ground or vase. They're 8 to 12 inches tall.
The seedlings are shipped with a ground bread corresponding to vase 18, with a crown diameter of 18-20 cm. Having a well-rooted clod can be transplanted at any time.
Attention: -In autumn and winter the seedlings can be presented with yellow or red leaves or partly deleafed in the lower part of the branch. These are not diseases, but only a reaction to the cold because plants are left to grow naturally: in the spring will resume their color and normal growth. -In spring the plants are shipped even if in bloom: I do not guarantee that the buds or the already large flowers arrive intact!!!
