Item details

This stunning Solid Australian Black Opal from Lightning Ridge has been hand-cut and polished from raw and while not in the traditional cabochon style could be easily used for jewelry. It has unbelievable flash and a beautiful high polish shine.

About Opals:
Opals are considered the Empress of All Gemstones since the fire captured within the stones seem to bring them alive. For centuries, they have been considered a symbol of hope, truth and purity. While they were once considered bad luck, this was actually a rumor started by a book written by Sir Walter Scott in 1829 in which an Opal leads to misfortune. Opals regained favor thanks to Queen Victoria who was an Opal enthusiast.

Australian Black Opals are considered one of the rarest gemstones in the world.

This Opal was hand-cut from lapidary rough bought direct from the Australian Miners in the Lightning Ridge region of New South Wales, Australia. This Opal has not been dyed or treated in any way. It is not a doublet or triplet, but instead a 100% Solid Australian Black Opal. This Opal could be cut down to 3-4 smaller Opals if you wanted. It has been polished to a high-shine and is still rough on the back side.

FAQs

Each piece is created with a fascinating process called electroforming in which particles of fine silver grow in an almost organic way creating a finished piece that follows the unique contours of the stones. I begin with a piece of sterling silver wire then set the stones and sand them to the perfect shape. Then they're painted with a conducive paint that indicates where the metal will eventually grow. For the final electroforming and plating, I send my pieces to an Electroforming House in LA. This new partnership has allowed me to still hand-craft every aspect of the design while now being able to offer them in silver. After the solid base is finished they are then plated in Rhodium (for a silver finish) Rose or Yellow Gold.

Q: I want something really special since I'll be proposing soon. Do you make custom engagement rings or bridal jewelry? A: YES! I absolutely love making engagement rings. Contact me or go to my website www.thefoxandstone.com for more information on my custom work.

Because electroforming isn't an exact science, I consider a 1/4 size variance as an acceptable range. If your ring is more than 1/4 size off the size you ordered, I will re-set/resize it for free. If it is within 1/4 size of the size ordered, but you ordered the wrong size, it will have to be entirely remade and will cost 50% of the original retail price (excluding all discounts). If you have any questions about this please let me know!

I am available Monday through Friday most of the day to answer messages, but I do not work on the weekends in order to spend time with my husband and three toddlers. Please be aware that if you message me on Friday evening through Sunday evening, I may not answer you until I am in the office Monday morning.

Q: I would like my order gift wrapped. Do you charge extra for this? A: No. All of my pieces come exclusively wrapped in a bed of green moss, nestled in a beautiful recycled looking brown box and wrapped with twine or yarn. Q: Can I have a personalized note added if I'm shipping to someone for a gift? A: Yes, I will happily hand-write a note for you! Just let me know in the Notes to Seller what you want to say.

My current "make time" is 6-8 weeks but we are actively working to reduce that. If you need it sooner than that I do offer an expedited processing option for an added fee of 20% of the item's cost.

Because each item in this shop is a custom made-to-order piece I am unable to offer a refund or exchange simply for buyers remorse. If there is a problem with your piece, I will gladly work with you to correct the issue.
