Look at the knitted picture from directly in front and you will see only stripes. Look at it from the side and you will see Mona Lisa.
The knitted panel could be used as a wall-hanging, or part of a bed-covering. The pattern includes the chart and detailed information to help you understand how illusion knitting works. (It does not give details about how to incorporate it into a completed item.)
The knitting is very easy though it requires concentration and accurate counting. If you can knit and purl you can make this.
The panel is 270 stitches wide. The size will depend on the yarn you choose and how tightly you knit. The version shown measures about 114 cm by 86 cm.
Steve Plummer and Pat Ashforth are world experts in Illusion Knitting.
***The hanging shown in the photos has now been acquired by Ripley's Believe It or Not! The pattern is still available for everyone.***
September 2013: All illusion patterns now include an extra chart intended for tablet users but others may also find them helpful. You can view 20 ridges at a time and always be able to see the numbers across the bottom of the chart. Never lose your place again!
