This 48-inch wide, 18-inch high piece of unused vintage mid-century 1960s barkcloth is a reproduction of Grandma Moses' embroidery "Mt. Nebo on the Hill," which she stitched in 1940. Mt. Nebo was the name of the working farm in Virginia where Moses and her husband moved after their wedding and also was the name of the farm in New York State where they lived after moving back to New York from Virginia. The farm was featured in many of her paintings. Details are:
~ The actual and entire piece is shown in the 2nd and 3rd photos. I could not fit the width in one photo, so it is divided between the two photos. This fabric has never been used or laundered and is in new condition. The colors are very vibrant.
~ All four edges are rotary cut. The piece did originally include both selvages, which were marked, but they have been cut off. Unlike all other Moses barkcloth fabrics, which are reproductions of her paintings, this work was not a painting. It was a woolen crewel embroidery design. Long before Grandma Moses started painting, she embroidered "worsted pictures," which she actually referred to as paintings. When she started selling her work, she sold her worsted pictures as well as her paintings. Mt. Nebo is the only Moses fabric I have come across that is a reproduction of a worsted picture rather than a painting. When you look at the close up photos, you can see that it is a reproduction of a hand-stitched embroidery.
~ This fabric is medium upholstery-weight cotton with a fine linen or canvas texture, which was intended to imitate the canvas of a painting. This fabric and similar weaves made in the 1950s and 1960s generally are considered to be barkcloth, although some barkcloth experts might not consider it to be "true" barkcloth because it does not have the "nubby" texture. You can see the weave if you Zoom on the 4th photo, which also shows Moses' signature on the crewel piece.

If you are interested in knowing more about Grandma Moses, her life and her art, I highly recommend a wonderful book, "Designs on the Heart - The Homemade Art of Grandma Moses" by Karal Ann Marling. Some of the information in this listing comes from that book.
On purchases of multiple items, Etsy calculates combined shipping when purchases are made on the same invoice (all items in a cart at once), but the amount is not always correct. I refund shipping overcharges of more than $1.00 immediately following shipment.
If a buyer wishes to have an order shipped to an address other than the buyer's address, the shipping address must be entered during the checkout process. Specifying a different address by convo or message is not sufficient to permit me to ship to that address. If an address changed is requested, I will refund and cancel the order, and ask the buyer to repurchase using the correct shipping address, in compliance with the Etsy Seller Protection Policy.
I no longer ship internationally to any country. Shipping is to U.S. addresses only.
I accept payment through Paypal via Paypal balance, credit card, or direct bank transfer, or through Etsy payments. I do not accept eCheck payments. I do not offer layaway services or installment payment plans.
Returns & exchanges
I accept returns only if I have made a mistake in the listing or an item otherwise is not as described in the listing, as long as the return is postmarked within 3 business days of receipt and is returned in exactly the same condition as it was received. The buyer must contact me prior to returning any item. Refunds will be issued after the item has been returned.
All of my listings are sold on a first come, first served basis. I do not "hold" or "reserve" items for purchase at a later time.
My prices are the same for everyone. I do not add a cushion to prices to allow for negotiating price or provide for free shipping. I treat all buyers the same and keep my prices as low as possible for everyone, rather than negotiating special prices for individual buyers.
Reviews are a valuable resource for both sellers and buyers. I rely on my reputation to inform new buyers about the quality of my products and level of customer service. If ever there is any kind of concern or issue with a purchase, please contact me prior to leaving a review with less than 5 Stars, so that I may remedy the situation.
I sincerely appreciate my customers who take the time to leave reviews and share their experiences with other Etsy buyers.
