Consider this beautiful Mayes 28" Spirit (bubble) Level, believed from the '20's or '30's I am not sure of the age and could not determine in my searches. The level is very sturdy, made of wood, which is painted red. There is gold embossing on the died of the level that says, "Mayes, Port Austin, Mich. There is also a half-moon on the side with "Mayes" printed in it, and the word "Trademark" on the side.
As photos will show, this is an outstanding antique level and very usable today, There are 4 different "bubbles", each of them intact. The level sits squarely on a flat surface, proving that it continues to be square. Most of the posted levels like this are 24" in length. This one is 28", making it a more unique find.
August Mayes was a stone mason and brick layer who, in 1874, began making his own levels. When others began to ask him for his levels, he got his son involved in making them. In 1917, John and two other brothers founded the Mayes Brothers Tool Manufacturing Company in Port Austin, Michigan. They stayed in that location until 1957.
I will wrap this "Bubble" level securely in "Bubble" wrap to ensure a safe trip to its new home. :)
I estimate shipping for long travel, thus I will happily refund any shipping overages over $1.00
