Outdoors: Sow March to May. Sow the seeds 1 cm deep where they are to flower in a sunny spot in finely raked, well drained soil. Water regularly especially in dry weather. Germination takes 2-3 weeks. If necessary, thin out the seedlings to 15cm apart when large enough to handle. Keep well watered and cut flowers/deadhead regularly to encourage more flowering.
Indoors: Sow February to March. Sow 6mm deep in moist, good quality seed compost and cover with sieved compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or seal in a polythene bag and maintain a temperature of 15-21C. Germination should occur in 2-3 weeks. When the seedlings have emerged, gradually increase the ventilation by opening the propagator vents or opening the bag. When large enough to handle, pot up into small pots (7-9cm) and grow on in cooler conditions in plenty of light but shaded from direct sunlight. When large enough, gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions before planting out, 20cms apart in a sunny position.
