Fleece from Baby - Fully skirted raw wool fleece, Pulled out into bundles and ends have been flicked open. As shown fiber is light black with the tips brown. Staple length 2 - 2.75 inches long.
Baby is the lead ewe. She has a strong personality and is always first. Good with all the babies but no nonsense with the other ewes.
Babydoll fleece is blocky, has fantastic crimp and is springy. It spins into a fine yarn or can be blended with fiber which doesn't have good memory. It does not easily felt. It does have lanolin.
Washing: Need: Bucket, long handled slotted spoon, Blue Dawn dish washing liquid, rubber gloves, drying racks
I measure out the weight of what I am going to wash. I have a small bucket so I wash 4 ounces at a time. To the bucket I add water that is very hot. (Need to wear rubber gloves to put my hands in the water. ) I don't want suds, so after the water is in the bucket I add Dawn dish washing liquid until the water feels slick.
Add the wool and gently push down into the water (don't agitate).
Let soak for 30 - 60 minutes or until the water starts to cool. Pull wool and let drain (don't wring.. it can be pressed together to get some of the excess wash water out) and place in rinse water that is at the same temperature as the water it was just pulled from, let sit in rinse water for 30 minutes. Repeat rinse step until water is clear.
