I created this motif for the express purpose of making a tutorial. It contains not only an introduction to freeform but a chance to try out some popular stitches for those a little uncertain about exactly where to start. The finished piece measures 9” X 11”. For this listing I am offering something special - both the pattern and the piece itself. Having the piece in front of you while working allows you to see all the tiny details. Its a great opportunity for someone just learning. Since I cannot offer a digital download and a physical object in the same listing I will do this - I will send a full-color printed copy of the pattern with the item and email a pdf copy of it to the email address on the paypal account used for payment within 2 (usually 1) business day. This will let you get a head start before the piece and printed pattern arrive.
To replicate the piece you will need: Sport weight yarn in the following colors: Ivory Light Brown Medium Brown Dark Brown Size E Aluminum crochet hook Small yarn needle Scissors Handheld garment steamer (optional)
Although an intermediate familiarity with crochet is suggested this would be a great introduction to freeform. Once you start to catch on this is a motif that can be modified and/or added to a bit for the purposes of experimentation without negatively impacting the remainder of the design.
I use existing stitches but in a slightly unconventional manner. I have also incorporated some more advanced techniques. They not only add some very nice touches to freeform but are truly valuable in almost all crochet. I also include some general information about freeform and explanations of why I do certain things (tutorial is 21 pgs and includes 48 full-color photos).
Since the tutorial focuses on freeform techniques and not so much on learning individual stitches I don’t include a full stitch tutorial for every stitch. I do include hyperlinks to photo and/or video tutorials on the Internet, however. Here’s what’s included:
Hyperlinks to tutorials on the following: Knurl/crab/reverse sc st Royal ridge st (also includes 3 pictures) Bullion st Magic circle Standing sc Standing hdc Chainless starting dc
Written Explanation of the following: 4 dc popcorn Berry st
Written Explanation and detailed photos of the following: Sc between sts Working in the round
