Natural organic looking and so beautiful! These long string of earthy-orange with mixed yellow swirly striped beads were made by the Krobo tribe in Ghana circa late 1800s/early 1900s. They have a very rustic mid-century look, with irregular stripes and imperfect shapes. These are sand casted beads, made by grinding down recycled old glass bottles into a fine powder and pouring into a clay mold that is heated until the powdered glass fuse together without completely melting, making a rustic sand-like texture. A cassava steam is used for the bead hole and is burned off in the heating process. And each bead is unique and slightly irregular. This process of making these glass beads is an ancient method dating back to over 1000 years ago and it is still used today.

Our business is rooted in our love of hand craftsmanship, history, and authenticity. We work carefully to source items that are uniquely hand-made as well as hard to find vintage items from remote areas in Africa. We believe in supplying designers and collectors with the most beautiful handmade items that not only have a rich history, but will last for generations. We love these beads and we love seeing beads transform into beautiful jewelry designs. We source directly from the makers so our items are priced at wholesale, but we offer discount prices for bulk orders. Please send us a screenshot of orders over $300 and will send customized order with special discount.
