Item details

A very nice, vintage, 35mm rangefinder camera. This is a Pre-WW2 Leica IIIa. An elegant, mechanical work of art from days gone by. Leica cameras have a strong following and are very collectible. This example would make an excellent addition to a collection and could also be used by those who wish to produce photos the old fashioned way.

-------------------------------------
Leica IIIa cameras were produced between 1935 and 1938. The Leica III design was the first to add the slow speed dial and the IIIa introduced the 1/1000s shutter speed to the model III. The rest is largely unchanged.

Leica Screwmount/Threadmount Design Evolution Summary:
Ia - Fixed lens, no built-in rangefinder
Ic - Interchangeable lens, no built-in rangefinder
II - First built-in rangefinder
III - Adds slow speed dial
IIIa - Adds 1/1000s
IIIb - Improved rangefinder/viewfinder positions
IIIc - Internal improvements
IIIf - Add built-in flash synch
IIIg - Larger body, 90mm finder added

Please use this in combination with the description provided. "A picture is worth a thousand words" and while I try to describe defects and function to the best of my ability the pictures can provide additional detail.

Vintage cameras typically require some care to bring them back to 100% function after years of use (or years of non-use). A full CLA by a trained professional is recommended for any vintage camera that is intended for photographic use.
