Washed / Scoured English Leicester Wool - Leicester Longwool
This fleece has been gently washed in a detergent specifically designed for scouring wool - Power Scour, by Unicorn Clean. 30 Microns, soft, great lustre and crimp for all sorts of craft work. Staple length on average 10cm.
The English Leicester was a pioneering breed in New Zealand, where it was found to be well suited to the wetter Merino regions and rougher grazing in the hill country, where the Merino had been tried and found unsuitable. It was among the earliest sheep imports to New Zealand and was used extensively as a crossing sire to develop sheep best suited to New Zealand conditions.
This lambswool comes from lambs that are sired from the largest flock in New Zealand - at the base of the foothills in Hawarden, North Canterbury. The sheep are well-looked after by the family and have been farmed since the early 1980s, with it's own developed stud.
This lambs wool takes on many of the special characteristics that its developed parents have - a beautiful lustrous crimp and wool that is even in length and fibre diameter, making it ideal to handle. This wool is raw so unwashed, yet despite this it is relatively clean and free of vegetable matter.
We have a quantity of this special wool available, so please do not hesitate to ask for a unique amount.
