A bit of history about approx age of my Pottery & Glass . There was a pottery in my area dating back to the 1600s. By the early 17th century my area was home
to an industrial glass-making facility, the first of
its kind in Scotland, which had two periods of
operation: in the first half of the 17th century,
and later reopening just before the turn of the 18th
century. By the second quarter of the 18th century
a pottery was founded on exactly the same site
as the now defunct glass works, owned first by
Anthony Hillcoat and then by George Gordon,
and, together with other important east coast
potteries of the period, it was producing various
ceramic wares that were being exported across
Europe. In the 1890s the colliery expanded and
brick and drainage tile manufacture took place
on the site: coal production ceased in 1962 and,
finally, brick production came to an end around
1975
