Beautiful Tapa Cloth 5'4" inch long x 1' 8" wide

Vintage Tapa Cloth Made in The Pacific Island of Tonga 3 Color Tapa Cloth

This is tapa cloth, made in the Pacific island of Tonga. It's made from the inner bark of the white mulberry tree, it is not stitched or sewn but beaten together and then decorated with pattern blocks called "kupesi", which are rubbed into the cloth and painted over. Tapa is an integral part of Tongan culture and very important to the Tongan people.

Please know that each piece is different...

This collection is a part of an inheritance from my husband's friend mentor K. He traveled the world. K loved Tonga the people, the culture and weather. K died 5 years ago and he left us his entire Tapa cloth collection.
