This is silk ribbon made from china silk that has been hand dyed with mulberry and beet. There was a small bit of iron added to the dye bath
It is 2 inches wide by 72 inches (2 yards) long.
The colour is a sage green, best shown on the white background. In the sun, I see a lot of green. In the shade, there is a lot of grey, almost silver. The colour is not solid but slightly varied throughout the piece.
The edges are raw. I have tried to pull off the excess threads but some might work out.
The ribbon has been machine washed cold twice and air dried. I use these on my own clothes, therefore machine washable is a must. However, if bleach is added, the colour will not stay true. I find this colour also softens after many washings (20 plus).
Everything I use to make these ribbons I can I compost and put back in the earth. There is nothing toxic in the dying process.
I have some of this silk left as fabric so please ask if you need a different width. I will not be able to forage mulberry again until next year.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I will get back to you as soon as I can.
