Matching pair of brass uniform buttons from the Grand Army of the Republic, a fraternal organization comprised of Civil War veterans from the Union Army. The GAR was founded in 1866 and was dissolved upon the death of its last member in 1956.
Larger button has a small dent in the dome and measures 15/16".
Smaller button has a gilt-like finish and measures 5/8".
Both backmarked marked "G.W. Simmons & Son, Boston"
