Item details

Hand-painted in the Hindi-like Samarkan script that is prevalent in Bali, these Namaste coconut shell word tiles are designed for vacation scrapbooks or off-the-page projects.

They could just as easily be used on a greeting card, as seen in my fourth foto, woven into a macrame bracelet, or stitched onto a yoga mat bag. Add a magnet or pin back to the ones you don't use in your main project.

They're ideal for organic wedding invitations and can also be stitched onto gift bags for your wedding guests as a beautiful token of your esteem. Bulk orders require quite a bit of time to prepare so please get in early.

Crafted exclusively for Indounik in Bali, these sturdy embellishments can be attached with thread or artistic wire, or you can alter their look by adding micro eyelets (not included) as I did on the greeting card and the off the page project in my final photo. Use a piercing tool to position the eyelets and then press them into position.

The pieces are of variable thickness, between 2mm and 3mm. If you want them for scrapbooking, please put a note in the message to seller at checkout and I'll dispatch the thinnest ones I can for you.

If attaching them to knits or textiles, rest assured they are safe to throw in a washing machine. The paint won't wash off and the tiles won't buckle.

PayPal is my preferred method of payment if it it's possible and convenient for you.

You'll find other word tiles in this range including Dharma, Peace, Bali, and the Om symbol -

Size: Approx 25mm (L) x 18mm (W)
Thickness: Approx 2mm-3mm, variable
Pieces per pack: 6
Material: Coconut shell, oil paint

Font: Samarkan
Payment: PayPal is my preferred method of payment if it it's possible and convenient for you.
Shipping: These items will ship from Bali, Indonesia, via registered post with a tracking number, and you will almost certainly have to sign for them upon delivery. Please see my shop policies for more important information about shipping and returns.
Extra info: The material used to create this product is from the shell of the coconut. The trees take about 25 to 30 years to mature and produce viable wood but the fruit of the tree - the humble coconut - takes only six months so this is a sustainable product. While I'm told the paint is oil-based, I have not been able to determine if there is any lead content. Either way, these tiles are not suitable for small children.

Namaste is a common greeting of spiritual significance used in India and Nepal and, thanks in no small part to yoga, it's one of the few Sanskrit words commonly recognised by non-Hindi speakers.

As well as speaking the word, the salutation also generally includes a slight bow with the hands clasped together, as if in prayer.

While namaste can be translated literally to mean “I bow to you”, it is really about showing respect to one another, recognising that the soul or the god in oneself is in all. By acknowledging the oneness of this life force, you are honouring it in the person you meet and greet in this way.

In Bali, the biggest Hindu outpost outside India, the local people generally greet each other in much the same way, using the words “Om Swastiastu”.

As yoga is widely taught and practised in Bali, the namaste greeting is also well used and understood there. Universally, the greeting passes between teacher and students after a yoga class, and sometimes before it too.
