Item details

The eyes of Buddha in a peaceful, meditative pose feature in this beautiful artisan-carved bone cabochon.

This piece is the mid size of three identical designs crafted for Indounik in Bali where Buddhism and other religions have had a big influence in shaping the type of Hinduism practised by most of the island's 4.3 million inhabitants.

It's ideal for jewelry-making and would make a stunning bracelet to match any pendant set with the larger 40mm cab.

You can see this design in the other sizes and colours here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/Indounik/search?search_query=buddha+eyes&search_submit=&search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_6011725&shopname=Indounik

This 28mm one could also feature on a greeting card, scrapbook page or the cover of a journal of your innermost thoughts, or make a stunning embellishment on luxury wedding invitations.

The gentle flowing lines of this design are as soft and warm to the touch as they appear.

PayPal is my preferred method of payment.

Shipping: This item will ship from Ubud, Bali, via Pos Indonesia registered mail with tracking, and you'll almost certainly have to sign for the package on delivery. Bali is the biggest Hindu outpost outside of India but it's a hybrid form of the religion that incorporates elements of Buddhism, animism, and even Chinese Confucianism.

This religion is practised by more than 90 percent of Balinese as well as some residents of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, and Lombok, the little island to Bali's east. Together they represent only about 3% of the population of Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation state.

What might not be so widely known is that in Java, once predominantly Hindu, a substantial number of Muslims follow a non-orthodox, Hindu-influenced form of Islam known as Agama Jawa.

Crafting beautiful ornaments and jewelry pieces from animal bone is a time-honoured tradition on the island of Bali. Bone is a sturdy and versatile material that is durable enough to craft a treasured heirloom.
