From about 1770 to 1850 the residents of Vierlanden in Germany sitiched samplers featuring densely stitched circular motifs of all sizes alongside crowns, diamonds and angels. Often each letter in the sampler alphabet would wear a crown. I have replicated this feature for my version of a Vierlanden sampler but using crown motifs from a variety of historical sources.
I have named this sampler Kleiner Vierlanden to reflect the fact that this is a relatively small design compared with many of the originals.
