PLEASE NOTE: The 4th photo is to show the shuttle in use. The shuttle being sold here has Red Birch ends and Spanish Cherry cross pieces. It will look similar to the first 3 photos.
This is my third shuttle design. They keep getting better. These are a bit longer and a bit narrower than my last design making them easier to throw or pass through the narrow sheds of a tabletop jack loom. I also brought the tips up higher which reduces the chance of diving through the warp. They throw and catch great and I'm sure they would work on larger looms as well.
I made this shuttle using Red Birch and Brazilian Cherry, it looks great and feels great in hand. Two slots allow for yarn to spin out either side (I have found this to make a huge difference in how smoothly and consistently the yarn winds out) and a smooth finish lets it glide easily through the shed. Two magnets hold the bobbin in place when in use.
I'm not selling these with bobbins. It works out cheaper for everyone. The bobbins I use are the 4 inch Leclerc styrene bobbins (they're great and cost like $1). If you wanted a little more weight you could use the wood ones. I'm not sure what other bobbins would fit, but the pin is 1/4 inch mild steel rod (the really standard stuff, easy to replace if it gets lost) and the interior length of the shuttle is 4" exactly. This leaves about 1/8" gap with the leclerc bobbins, perfect for the bobbins to spin freely but not rattle about. Unfortunately, Schadcht bobbins won't work. Outer dimensions are 1 1/8" x 1 1/2" x 9 1/4".
Bobbin not included. I'm sorry shipping costs so much :(
