See title for dimentions See photos for exact grain/figure, contrast and pattern. some of the blanks are rough cut by bandsaw to save you money. so they may not be perfectly square, but are always measured at the smallest dimension. (Burl wood) As with all burl wood there is a possibility of inclusions, voids, or internal checks. I have selected the best burls possible and cut the blanks with all this in mind. I am very carefully to inspect the burl before cutting blanks as to avoid any checks, voids or internal cracks. now I can't guarantee that the blank will be free from any unseen defects, however I do everything in my power to great the best and most useable blanks possible. I photograph and point out all visible defects on each blank when listing as to give a transparent description of each piece of wood.
(cutting green wood for turners) I often cut green wood at 35% moisture content and photographed them imeditley and then seal the grain as to allow very slow controlled drying of each blank. the slower they dry the less likely they are to distort, check, or warp. they are then stored in a cool dry place to allow to season. of you have questions of a specific moisture content of a blank just let me know and I will be happy to take a current moisture content reading for you. I do my best to provide a superior product and take no short cuts in making my blanks. I use a few different sealant types and choose the sealant that I feel will work best with the particular blank. they're are multiple factors that I take into account such as size, moisture content, grain direction just to name a few while selecting the best sealer for the job. some of the sealers that I use frequently are Anchorseal original, Anchorseal 2, and a few homemade secret recipes that have their own place in my shop for different reasons. In some cases I will do a single layre of one and a second coat of a different sealant to achieve the best possible results. if you have a preference in any way please let me know and I can re seal the blank to your specifications. if you want the blank to remain very green I have a special sealant I will use as a final coat before shipping as well. bottom line I take pride in every blank I sell and will work with you to give you the best start to your creation that I can.
(about my blanks) I carefully select burls and highly figured lumber to make my blanks out of. I do not make high quantities of these blanks as to keep the quality very high. I take extra time to make sure the blank is the best it can be. I evaluate which direction and orientation to mill the burl as to portray it's unique figure and appeal to the best of each blanks ability. I will be happy to take the time to answer any and all of your questions. i do my best to create a transparent platform in which to do business. I never hide defects or downfalls of any blank as to give you the most realistic idea of what your getting. If you are looking for a specific size blank or a specific type of figure for you next project please let me know and I most likely can accommodate you. I have a lot of burls and can get you most any figure, size, contrast, live edge, with bark on it, no bark, shape, color, moisture content or type of burl. I specialize in walnut burls, claro, French, black to name some. I can most likely accommodate a specific burl figure pattern..such as birdseye, lace, curly, salted, slated black lines and fiddleback.
