Item details

1x Lil Sista Bamboo Weaving Loom - 40cm x 30cm with option to add Loom Legs at discounted price

The Lil Sista Loom is the newest addition to The Unusual Pear loom family!

She's pretty special too. Just like the Big Mama Loom, she can be used portrait or landscape and the best news?? The Lil Sista and the Big Mama* are interchangeable! That's right, if you have both of these looms, you have the option of 4 different sized looms. You can also have two weavings on the go at once! One on the front side and one on the back.
*Big Mama Looms sold after 1st April 2018.

The total dimensions of this loom once assembled is 40cm x 30cm (16inch x 11.5inch) with a total weaving area of 23.5cm x 34cm (9inch x 13inch).

This loom comes unassembled but you will receive 8 screw sets to easily assemble the loom. You should be able to assemble without the need to use any tools although if you want a really tight fit, a flathead screwdriver will do the trick. This is another great thing about the Lil Sista Loom - you can easily store/transport it when not in use!

**********************************

These weaving looms and tools have been designed by Rainie Owen of The Unusual Pear since 2014 and are laser cut in Sydney, Australia with 7mm FSC certified bamboo; a strong, thick material which is lightweight and flexible. Each bamboo loom and tools are sanded by hand resulting in slight surface variations between each item.

Unlike some of the copycat looms out there, these are the original laser cut looms. Rest assured you will be weaving away with these babies for many years to come ❤️

FAQs

You can download the instructions from my website www.theunusualpear.com under the "learn to weave" tab of the menu. There, you will find written instructions, videos and photographs to help you get started!

The size of the loom you order is really just a matter of personal preference. You can choose to warp and weave the whole width of the loom, maximising your weaving area or you may choose to only warp and weave a section of the loom to create a smaller piece. You can add tassels to create longer lengths to your pieces. The best value for money is my Big Mama Loom as it is the biggest in my range.

Warp is the lengthwise threads of the weaving and the foundation for your woven piece. You want to use a strong thread that will not break. The most common type of warp is cotton. I have a great natural cotton warp in my shop which is strong and perfect for warping. It's 200g so it will get you through a ton of weavings before you would need to order more! You can use all sorts of thread for warping and any colour you like to create interest in your piece.

The wonderful thing about weaving is that you can use almost anything as your weft (the crosswise threads of the weaving). The yarn that I sell in my shop are hand dyed and/or hand spun Australian wool yarns. I choose to include Australian made wool yarns because I believe in supporting local businesses and I also know and understand the impacts that some other yarns have on the environment (nylon, acrylic etc). These are the conclusions that I have personally made, you may use whatever materials you have available to you :)

You can head on over to Instagram to find a motherload of inspiration by searching popular hashtags such as #weaving #woven #wovenwallhanging #weave #weaverfever #getyourweaveon #weaversofig #weaversofinstagram #handwoven #weavingloom and so on. You can find out what other people are creating with The Unusual Pear products by searching #theunusualpear and @theunusualpear It's important to remember that a persons original artwork or weaving should not be directly copied. By all means, draw inspiration from someone who inspires you but be mindful not to directly copy and try to be original with what you create :)

Well, you'll need to get yourself the basic tools to get started. This includes: - Weaving loom - Weaving needle - Weaving comb - Cotton warp - Scissors - Yarn
