ABOUT US:
We are a small family business & Australian Boulder Opal is our passion.
Our knowledge, experience & passion for the Opal industry has been a big part of our family for generations.

Did you know that no two pieces of natural Opal are the same?

This means when you purchase a solid, natural Opal you a buying a unique and one of a kind piece, and when you buy from us you are also buying an opal that has been sourced directly from our own mine in South West Queensland, Australia.

Once the opal has been mined, we take the ironstone boulders from their original state in the ground and start the journey of working towards the final product through precision sawing, cutting, shaping and polishing, all done by hand.

No. All of our opals are natural, solid opals

Unless stated otherwise our opals are mined by us from our mine in the Jundah region southwest Queensland, Australia

All natural, solid Australian opals are non porous. So water will not hurt or impact your opal in anyway. Like with most jewelry, we do suggest taking it off when showering or in water as water can loosen some settings over time.

Opals are a softer stone in comparison to diamonds or emeralds, however are harder than pearls. On the Moh hardness scale (1-10) Opal is a 6. Rough wear & tear can lead to scratching on your opals surface or in extreme circumstances chipped or breakage if dropped on a hard surface. Our suggestion is just like with any item of value & importance treat the opal with care so your one of a kind, millions of years old opal will continue to last

At this stage we do not offer custom services of any kind (jewellery or cutting). With our schedules & times being broken up between traveling between the mine & home, attending trade shows, festivals & visiting industry buyers & jewelers, as well as actually mining all the opal & hand cutting every piece we simply can not fit any more into our days. We do hope custom work is a service we will be able to offer in the future.

Before finding Etsy & having Signature Opal join the social media world we sold trade only, to opal specific jewelers & opal dealers/specialists worldwide. While this is still the largest part of our business, Etsy & social media has given us the opportunity to share our story, journey, passion & opals with more people. We realized when we started there was a want for more options from everyday people, silversmiths, metal smiths & jewelers (who were not opal specialists) & they were voicing that natural opals can sometimes be hard to come by & so came our desire to open up more of our world to the world

A jewellery cloth to clean the silver & wipe any fingerprints/marks off the opal. You may also use a damp cloth to wipe over the opals surface
