Teddy Bear and Sweater DK Knitting Kit - 100% Pure New British Wool

The knitting kit for the 8.75 inch tall really cute Natural Wool Teddy Bear contains a pattern designed by Sandra Polley plus 50grms of DK yarn for one bear, toning yarn for paws and foot pads, black DMC cotton for nose and mouth and 25 grms DK yarn for the teddy's jumper. Also included is a pair of 5mm black beads for the eyes (safety eyes can be included if requested). Please note: This is a kit for you to knit a teddy bear yourself - it does not include a finished handknitted bear. The pattern included in the kit gives instructions to knit a bear in either DK yarn or 4ply yarn but the yarn etc. for only the DK bear and jumper is included in this kit.

To knit the bear, you will also need : Size 3mm knitting needles (smaller if you normally knit to a loose tension), tapestry needle for sewing wool and 35 grms of polyester stuffing

There are three main yarn choices available detailed below plus three colour yarn options for the sweater. Please select from the drop down boxes shown above. The yarns have been spun at the Natural Fibre Company in Cornwall using personally selected fleeces from Rare Breed Sheep.

Option 1: Beige bear kit using Portland/Manx loaghtan yarn spun from the fleeces of Rare Breed sheep owned by the National Trust.

Option 2: Beige bear kit using Shetland/Castlemilk Moorit yarn spun from the fleeces of Rare Breed sheep owned by the Essex Wildlife Trust and a local smallholder. (Slightly darker yarn than Portland/Manx Loaghtan)

Option 3: Mid Brown Shetland bear kit using yarn spun from the fleeces of Shetland sheep owned by the Essex Wildlife Trust.

This kit is aimed at an intermediate level knitter due to the number of pattern pieces which are all knitted flat and then the seams are sewn up neatly before inserting the stuffing and the eyes. The arm and leg joints are formed by threading yarn through the outside of the limbs and attaching to the body by sewing through limbs and body several times to fix securely whilst still allowing movement of the limbs. You can if you wish add buttons on the outside of the limbs whilst doing the thread joints. The completed bear is something that will be treasured by adults as well as older children (it is not suitable for children under 3 years of age due to the bead eyes and thread jointed limbs).

The pattern included in the kit is an original design by Sandra Polley. It is used in the kit with her permission and is intended for personal use only. Please do not reproduce or sell this pattern or any products created from it.
