Item details

This beautifully handcrafted wood pen is made from an unknown spalted wood with antique brass accents. A durable friction polish is applied after sanding to 12,000 grit, achieving a mirror finish. This pen can be refilled with Parker Standard refills, which can be picked up at many local retailers.

All of our pens are handmade with care by Nick and Corinna. Our pens are fantastic gifts for many occasions. Give your groomsmen or bridesmaids a gift they can cherish forever, add some class to your wedding guestbook, or send off your new graduate in style. Do you have friends and family who love to write? These make great birthday, mother's day, father's day gifts as well.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out and we are more than happy to help you.

What is spalting?
Spalting is a figure pattern caused by fungus growing in trees and logs. It produces black streaks usually growing with the grain and can result in a beautiful marbling. But don’t worry, spalted woods are not dangerous in any way. The wood has been dried to prevent further decay and the fungus is dormant in the wood. That means that, while not dead, it is no longer reproducing or producing spores. In addition, any current spores in the wood are completely sealed in by the finish.

FAQs

We are more than happy to work with you on creating your perfect item. Time to complete your custom order will depend on the specifics of your order, but we will do our best to meet your timeline.

These items are prone to scratches and wear and the natural oils in your hands can degrade the finish. Luckily it's very easy to maintain your item's finish! Wood finishes can be restored with a light buff from a clean dry cloth. If it has become dull from repeated use, apply a good quality furniture wax and let it dry before buffing to a shine. A clean, dry, soft cloth or lens-cleaning tissue works well for this. Never use cleaning fluids, solvents, compounds, or abrasives, as these may damage the finish of the wood, and possibly the plating on the metal parts. Polishing not only restores the lustrous finish, but will provide your item with a layer of protection from oil, dust and dirt.

All of our kitchen wood products (for example, bowls) have a food safe finish on them. To maintain the beauty and durability of your item and prevent cracking, warping, or drying out, follow these simple care instructions: * Never put items in the dishwasher * Never soak or immerse the item in water * Don't leave the item in direct sunlight * Don't put items in the microwave or dishwasher * Clean the item with mild dish soap and dry immediately * Periodically treat the wood with food-grade mineral oil or cutting board oil

The method of refilling may vary slightly depending on the style of pen. For most pens, simply pull apart the lid or upper barrel from the lower barrel or unscrew the tip. Replace the ink cartridge. Be sure not to lose the spring or the pen may not retract properly. Ink refills are commonly available at any office supply store; the type of refill is specified on each pen's listing. There's no need to stop using your handcrafted pen simply because the ink ran out!

* Try not to drop the item, as the thin layer of wood or acrylic could chip or crack * Don't expose a wooden item to extreme temperatures. Wood is a moving material, it responds to changes in temperature and humidity in unpredictable ways. If you leave your item in the car or on a windowsill where it can expand and contract it may crack. * Try to keep the item dry

An acrylic item can be restored by buffing with a clean dry cloth. Over time the high gloss finish can wear and micro scratches can dull the sheen. You should use plastic polish to revive the luster. Restore the item with any approved plastic polish and use as per the manufacturers instructions.

We use walnut oil and beeswax to finish most of our pieces. If you have allergies to either of these or something else you have concerns about, please feel free to reach out and make a custom order and we will work with you to ensure your item is allergen-free.
