These are mulberry silk laps which are sheets of silk that have been carded but not yet combed and processed into top. They have lovely texture and due to being carded the fibers are somewhat aligned and easier to draft and work with than silk hankies.
The silk comes off the commercial drum carder in huge sheets which I break down into smaller pieces (full sheets are also available - they run around 2 pound). Mulberry silk comes from the Bombyx Mori moth which feeds on mulberry leaves. This diet creates a very soft high luster silk.
Great for large nuno felting projects, blending, spinning, or draft out by hand to knit or crochet. Very soft and plenty of luster. This is 100% mulberry silk.
I have hand painted this piece in colorway "Mermaid". This sheet is 52.6 grams (1.88 ounces) and approximately 3 1/2 ft x 4 ft. It can be stretched out wider or peeled into a thinner sheet. Photos never do enough justice to silk, but I think you will have fun working with this. The first photo shows the silk you are buying, the rest are of the full sheet before I broke it into smaller lots. Handpainted fibers should be washed in cold water and air dried.
Attention: I do combine shipping on multiple items but they need to be paid for together – Please wait to pay until you are through shopping and when you check out it should reduce the shipping. International buyers are responsible for any customs fees their country might charge. I usually take close up photos. Please read the description to determine what you are buying and review my shop policies- I don't want you to be disappointed in your purchase.
