This is a large size rip saw, of traditional Japanese carpentry. It has a forged blade with original etched inscription in Japanese. The blade is old and darkened, with light rusting; but with sharpening it certainly can be used. It has a lovely wood handle, with a copper protective covering at the hilt, where the blade enters the handle. This is a fairly large saw, with big teeth, used for lengthwise cuts of coniferous wood; traditionally large beams and the like.
