Sir Luigi Cattelan was knighted in 2005 by the Italian government in recognition for all he accomplished in the Murano bead industry. A native born Italian he is descended from a family of master craftsmen dating back to the 15th century. For 20 years he was the director of production at The Societa' Veneziana Conterie, which was founded in 1893 and closed in 1992. Due to this closure caused by inexpensive foreign competition he started working for himself and reintroduced the chevron bead back into the great bead markets of Italy, the U.S. and Africa. He used compositions of glass from the S.V.C. as well as from his grand and great grandfathers plus old and rare chevron cane found in warehouses and factories on the island of Murano.
These beads will make lovely additions to any bead collection or can be worn in your most unique jewelry creations.
For the last 20 - 25 years we have been collecting spectacular hand crafted lamp work beads. His collection includes chevrons and other intricately designed beads plus others that include face & other pictorial murrine (canes). They were purchased directly from the artisans and some include signatures and dates. These beads have never been used in jewelry or worn so the approx. ages will be indicated.
Method of shipping will be determined by bead type and value. We ship with the USPS and prefer that valuable and fragile beads be shipped via boxed Priority Mail with delivery confirmation and insurance. We will ship via First Class Mail in a bubble lined mailing envelope whenever possible. All items will be carefully wrapped in double or triple bubble wrap. Items above a certain value are insured for your protection and peace of mind.
International shipping is done the same way. We use Endicia for our International postage and insurance is available to most countries. For customs we describe the package contents as "craft supplies." This is a fair and honest description that seems to work well in all countries. Please do not ask us to falsify customs information. Please be aware of the importation laws of your country and remember that customs fees, duty & VAT are your responsibility. Please don't ask us to misrepresent the value on the customs declaration.
If the actual shipping cost is substantially lower we will refund the difference to you via your payment method.
We are happy to combine orders from both of our shops to reduce shipping costs. Please contact us with any questions or special shipping needs that you may have.
We appreciate your payment via PayPal or Etsy Direct Checkout. E-checks are available to you via PayPal but they do delay shipment. Any custom fees & duties are the responsibility of the buyer. Please be aware of the rules & regulations of your home country.
We are happy to reserve items for you for a reasonable amount of time. When requesting a reserve listing please let us know when we can expect completion of the purchase. Unless previously arranged items held more than 3 days without purchase will be converted to a public listing. If you change your mind about the reserve please let us know. Thank you!
