What is a True Paraiba Tourmaline:
From the beginning, the trade labeled these Paraíba tourmalines. The Rio Grande Do Norte tourmalines were also called paraiba.
Naming the Nigerian gems was a bit of a problem. Many would like to have them called “paraíba like,” or “Cu or copper bearing” tourmalines. Unfortunately, a lot of the Nigerian material was mixed with the Brazilian early on and the distinctions were confused. Next we had the addition of the Mozambique stones. These were commonly called “paraíba tourmalines from Mozambique.”
The chemical differences between the sources are so slight that it is often impossible to determine the origin. Visually, the best samples from Nigeria or Mozambique had colors that were as vivid as the ones from Brazil.
In 1999, before the Nigerian discoveries, the World Jewellery Confederation, (CIBJO,) modified their rules, allowing “paraíba” as a valid trade name. Traditionally, minerals often receive their name as a reference to the place where they were first encountered, so calling all the copper bearing elbaite tourmalines “paraíba” was easily accepted.
In February this year, (2006,) at the International Gemstone Industry Laboratory Conference the term “paraíba tourmaline” was adapted as a variety name, regardless of geographic origin. In April, the International Laboratory Manual Harmonization Committee also accepted the new terminology.
As a result of these recent events, most international gemological laboratories are calling all copper containing elbaite “paraíba tourmaline.” Many lab reports note that this is a variety name and does not necessarily denote origin.
The American Gem Trade Association, often at the front of ethical issues, has revised their reporting procedures. As of June first, AGTA reports will contain the following information:
SPECIES: Natural elbaite tourmaline
VARIETY: Paraíba tourmaline
ORIGIN: the source, (if known,) or not determined
COMMENTS: the variety name paraíba is derived from the locality in Brazil where it was first mined. its geographical origin has not been determined and therefore could be from Brazil, Mozambique, Nigeria or another locality.

DOMESTIC ORDERS: Orders less than $100.00 usd are shipped via First Class with Tracking within the Continental U.S.. all orders over $100.00 will be shipped via USPS Priority 2-3 service free of charge. Please contact us if you would the item(s) sooner, and we would be happy to calculate Express (overnite) shipping charges for you.
For security reasons, I can only ship to PayPal verified addresses or CC billing addresses. If you wish your ring to be shipped to a different address, please add it to your Paypal account before making the transaction, and indicate it as your shipping address.
INTERNATIONAL ORDERS: All orders for non-gold (Sterling Silver and Gold Filled) pieces will be shipped via USPS International First Class with Tracking. All fine jewelry shipping will be shipped insured with tracking, and will be calculated at the time of transaction. Please contact us for charges prior to purchase and we will be happy to let you know charges beforehand. Please note that we are not responsible for any duties that may be assessed once the item(s) has reached your countries customs. We do insure gold jewelry for it's full value at time of shipment.

If you are not satisfied with the items you have purchased, we will gladly refund your purchase price, minus any applicable shipping charges. The item must be shipped back to us in unworn condition within 7 days from the date the item was received. This does not apply to custom orders, or items purchased via our no interest layaway payment plan, for these see warranty details below. If your ring was sized, we will refund all except shipping, and (if applicable) a $25.00 ring resizing fee. Please notify us if you will be returning any items. Also, please allow 5-7 business days for the refund to post.
Jewelry / International Returns:
You may return the item for any reason within 10 days of receiving the item(s. The item(s) must be in unworn condition with all the original tags, and corresponding paperwork. If the ring was sized, please note that we will be retaining a $25 ring sizing fee, and original shipping charges will not be refunded. For custom orders, and/or payment plan layaway purchases, warranty details will apply.

Your satisfaction is of utmost importance to us. We are a small, family owned business, not a faceless corporation, so we value every client we sell to. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your gemstone purchase, you can return it, no questions asked within the time frames listed below. We are also happy to exchange your stone for an available alternate you love even more.
We offer a 7 day money-back guarantee on all domestic purchases (excluding custom-cut items and items on payment/financing plans), and 10 days for international purchases. You will have 7 business days (10 days international) from the time you sign/receive your package to review your purchase. If you need more than 7 days to inspect your gem, please contact us before your purchase it to see if special arrangements can be made? After you sign for the package, the gem is no longer insured. You are responsible for its care. If it is lost, or damaged while in your care, it cannot be refunded. If you are not happy with the gem, you can return or exchange it, no questions asked. You must return the item in its original, "as shipped" condition with all its corresponding documentation. Gemstones that have been set, recut, are damaged in any way, have alternate dimensions, or weigh differently than when they were shipped are not eligible for return. We pay close attention to the specifications of each, and every gem we sell.
You must obtain approval to ship your item back, as well as contact us for how and where to ship it. Please do not ship it back on your own as it may jeopardize your refund. Once we have approved your return, we will email you the proper shipping information. You will be responsible for the cost of shipping the item back. We cannot assume any responsibility for any loose stone that is not returned to us properly i.e. not effectively protected, boxed loosely, unboxed/unprotected etc.
ALL GEMSTONE REFUNDS:
Refunds will be given back through the payment method you used to originally purchase the stone(s), provided these guidelines are followed. Refunds are generally processed within 1-2 business days of our shop receiving your return after we have had time to inspect the gem and contents. Depending on the merchant used to make the original payment, it may take up to 3-5 business days for your return to post back to your original payment account. Refunds will be given less the return shipping costs if applicable?
Payment/Layaway Plans: If you have selected a payment plan for either an in stock item/Gem, or Custom Order we ask that you make a payment every 30-35 days. Your item will be held for you throughout the duration of your payment plan, and promptly ship out your item as soon as the balance is paid in full. Please contact us if you need add'l time as we are happy to work with you on providing add'l 2-4 weeks. If you would like to cancel your layaway payment plan on any of our in stock pieces, or gems please understand that we will retain 20% of your order total for re stocking and administrative fees to re-list your item.
All of our gemstones are Natural, Genuine Gemstones unless otherwise stated in the listing. If you would like further information as to how each stone is treated, please feel free to ask. Most gemstones are heated treated, or can be treated by other various methods. However, if you are looking for an unheated, or untreated gemstone, please contact us directly and we would be happy to offer you additional stone options. We do independently test our stones to the best of our ability by the use of various methods such as; liquid testing, physical 10-20x zoom inspection, Presidium Gem/Diamond Tester, Gem Filters, Presidium Moissanite Tester - all of which are widely used, and accepted forms of testing within the Gemological and Fine Jewelry Community- however we are not GIA or AGL. Some of our stones may also come with various Gem Certifications in addition to our testing, and will specify that within the listing. Although we do our very best to ensure the authenticity of all of our gems, and as many other jewelers can attest we cannot guarantee beyond any doubt that our testing methods are 100% accurate. We do our best to make sure our equipment is properly calibrated at the time the test is performed.
If you need help deciding which gemstone will fit in a setting you already have, please let us assist you. We always recommend that you buy a gemstone for your setting based on the millimeter size of the stone, not carat weight - as dimensions are the measurement used when setting stones properly. Two gemstones can be the same carat weight, but due to differences in cut can be different millimeter sizes and may not fit in your setting, please understand we do not guarantee that our gemstone will fit your setting.

Welcome to Alea Mari & Co., your one stop shop for all your jewelry needs! We offer free layaway payment plans for 3 months to 1 year (based on amount) for in Stock Pieces, Gems, or on Custom made orders. This offer is good for U.S. residents, and international clients only upon approval.
Payment plan is as follows:
1.) The item purchase price will be evenly divided among either 3, 6, or 9 months depending on order amount, up to maximum of 1-year as it applies to the order amount. Your first payment payment will be 20% of the total, then we can split the remaining amount evenly over the duration of your payment plan schedule.
2.) The "in-stock" item will be set aside for you during the period of your payment plan, unless it is a custom order. If the item is a custom order, construction of the piece will not begin until after 80% of all payments have been made. Custom orders may take 4-5 weeks to complete (depending on order), and will be made in the exact size and specifications you have initially requested on your order.
3.) Payments will be in the form of a “Reserved” listing on our Etsy Shop, with your name on the listing (usually last name only, or initial whichever you prefer).
4.) You will be required to make a agreed upon payment every 30-35 days after your initial (20%) payment has been made.
5.) If a payment has not been received (and no communication has been made) in a 45 day period we will assume you are no longer interested in purchasing the piece, and we will refund you all payments made except a 20-25% administration/re-listing fee, or we will retain the first payment of 20% of full purchase price if no more payments have been made. We will make every attempt to contact you before we cancel your order.
6.) At any time, you may pay off the remainder of your balance and receive your item sooner, Just let us know when you would like to pay off your balance and we can adjust the reserved listing to reflect that.
7.) If an in stock ring needs to be sized, the sizing will be done once all payments have been received, and the balance is paid in full. Please keep in mind, that it may take an additional 7-10 days to resize your ring. If this is a custom order piece, please note that work will not begin until 80% of total purchase price has been paid, or your next to the last payment has been made. Once casting phase has begun there will be no cancellations, or refunds given, only warranty details will apply.
8.) Once all payments have been made, and the ring has been sized, or constructed, we will ship your beautiful piece to you for free Domestically via USPS Priority 2-3 day fully insured. Please let us know if you need it shipped Priority Express, 1-day and we can provide you with a shipping upgrade in your final payment listing.

CUSTOM ORDERS: Please note that there will be no refunds for custom orders once the item is complete, or once casting phase has begun - warranty conditions will apply at this point. However, should you change your mind, or choose to cancel your order BEFORE the production or casting phase has begun, (unless otherwise stated) you may receive a refund for all your payment(s) minus 25% (or first payment, whichever is greater) of order total for administrative, design, CAD, custom mold fees, reserved listing fees, and material/stone fees incurred as a result of your specified order. Also, as each custom order is made according to your exact ring size given at the time of order any need to resize the ring(S) at a later date will result in a resizing fee of $35 plus return shipping ~ SO PLEASE BE SURE TO OBTAIN PROPER RING SIZING PRIOR TO PLACING YOUR CUSTOM ORDER TO AVOID THIS. Contact us if you are unable to be professionally sized and we would be happy to send you an adjustable ring sizer in the mail.
Custom Mountings: Please note that in addition to the Custom Order Policies above, any gems provided by the customer for setting into their mounting will be insured up to $80usd maximum should the gem incur any damage during the setting of the stone. We will inspect all gems upon arrival, and before setting to insure the gem is free of any noticeable chips, cracks, or scratches PRIOR to the actual setting of the stone. The buyer assumes all risk above this amount, and must provide proof of purchase of their gem upon any claims of reimbursement.
WARRANTY: Fine Jewelry - All 10kt, 14kt and 18kt Gold Jewelry
We offer a 1-yr warranty against defects in workmanship, you will need to ship the ring to us, we will pay for return shipping back to you. We cannot accept responsibility for jewelry that becomes missing during shipment to us, we recommend that you insure your piece. We will repair, and /or replace any accent stones that may be missing due to poor workmanship. We do not warranty against full replacement of missing center stone(s), any replacement of center stone may result in added cost to buyer of $100-$1,200 depending on the stone, and availability. If the item appears damaged in any way (i.e. broken, bent, or scratched prongs) we cannot repair the piece free of charge, but will offer repair, and replacement of stone(s) at very minimal fee, this we will always do for our customers! For life! Keep your original paperwork so we may verify purchase. Once repair is complete, we will promptly ship the item back to you via USPS 2-3 day Priority insured shipping domestic, or Priority International. You will pay shipping to us, and we will charge you return shipping once item is complete and ready to ship. Please let us know if you have any questions prior to shipping?
