Wheel thrown, hand carved yarn bowl in purple and cascading opal drizzle. Ideal for knitting, crochet and as a decorative carved ceramic stoneware bowl.
Features 2 holes for knitting needles, various sized holes for wool feeding and and the traditional yarn hook. The bowl itself prevents wool from rolling away and dispenses the wool through the hook or a hole to the knitter to prevent tangling and dirtying of wool.
These bowls start their lives as a 'lump' of stoneware clay, they are traditionally thrown on the wheel, dried for a day, before they are turned and curved, and left for a further week or so to dry fully. at the point the bowl receives its first fire - the bisque fire at cone 04 (approx. 1050 degrees celcius) this partially vitrifies the clay and burns off any organic inclusions. once they are cooled the glaze is applied, they are then returned to the kiln and fired to cone 6 (approx. 1220degrees celcius).
As each item is handmade and glazed, small variations in the decoration of the item you receive may occur.
All of my products are hand made by myself in the UK using traditional ceramic techniques.
