For the Detroitophile! As a girl who grew up on the east side of Detroit (7mile & Schoenherr) I couldn't have been happier when I found a beautiful Detroit Public Library card catalog. You know, one of those beautiful, old, wood cabinets with about 60 drawers, solid brass fittings...yup, that kind! I was even more excited to discover that the entire card catalog was full of cards that relate almost exclusively to the City of Detroit. The cards document the holdings of the Detroit Public Library, Main Branch; books, papers, genealogy documents, etc. and the topics range from historical speeches, to organizations, schools, businesses, churches, family names, and events. The cards document records from as far back as the 1700s through the late-1900s; one of the most interesting, historical, cards documents the speech given by the Mayor of the city of Detroit on the occasion of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The topics are incredibly varied and while I have grouped them into general categories, I am happy to try to fulfill a custom request for groups of cards, just convo me to discuss and I'll try to find what you are looking for! If you select a random assortment, you'll receive a few of each of the organizations, events, names, schools, churches...a little bit of everything! Also, if you would like a quantity that isn't listed, again, please just tell me how many you need and I'll be happy to help you. I've taken many of the cards and used them to make wonderful little gift tags (those are listed separately!) There are so many things you can do with these cards! Many people use them for weddings, as place cards, to make tags, use them for jewelry...I like to display them tied with a bit of lace or twine; I think they make a wonderfully interesting accessory to a vintage vignette.
I can't wait to share these wonderful cards with others who love the city of Detroit as much as I do! Thanks for stopping by today and don't forget to check out the card catalog gift tags; the tag is cut from the cards, while the backs are blank, perfect for writing the name of someone special!
