Item details

A very nice, vintage, 35mm rangefinder camera- a WW2 wartime manufacvtured Leica IIIc. An elegant, mechanical work of art from days gone by. Leica cameras have a strong following and are very collectible. This example would make an excellent addition to a collection and could also be used by those who wish to produce photos the old fashioned way.

This 'wartime' produced camera has a unique 'step' on the top plate that the rewind selector rests upon. These cameras are sometimes referred to as 'steppers' and are among several sought after collectible variations in the Leica IIIc's produced.

[Details of this cameras condition, function, description are provided below, Feel free to request more information if needed.]

-------------------------------------
I believe in education is an important part of the sales process. There is significant information available on the web about these fine old cameras but I have attempted to provide some basic details below. I hope you find it interesting/useful.

Leica IIIc cameras were produced between 1940 and 1951. The Leica III design was the first to add the slow speed dial and the IIIa introduced the 1/1000s shutter speed to the model III. The rest is largely unchanged. IIIc models improved the viewfinder positions and had other internal improvements and external design changes.

IIIc cameras had several interesting, collectible, variations during their production. Pre-400,000 serial number cameras are generally more valuable. Post-war IIIc cameras tend to suffer from degradation to the chrome plating - bubbling and corrosion is common - due to the lack of availability of this metal just after the war.
