Item details

Here is a wonderful nest of sea marbles all found on the wild, rugged coast of Scotland.

They are sitting in a lovely old sea worn metal base which now has a beautiful patina due to its exposure to the elements. We hardly find any sea metal nowadays, and it is a favourite of mine. This is a particularly lovely example which may have originated from an old wall mounted telephone or reception bell. It has a beautiful sound when tapped!

The nest rests on a lovely, chunky piece of driftwood too.

This collection is for the serious lover of sea marbles, and these are a beautiful shade of sea foam. It has taken quite some time to put this collection together.

These marbles were used in soft drink bottles and are often about 100 years old. They were used a lot here in the late 1800s with the invention of the Codd bottle, which used a marble as a seal (what we now call Codd Balls). This type of bottle is also where the much sought after 'bottle stopper' originates from.

The marbles are all in good condition- round, smooth and very frosty. They have the expected smattering of 'c' shapes, dings and frosting expected from years in the sea.

They would be a fantastic addition to anyone's collection and would look at home bathed in sunlight by a window.

They come as found- I do not do anything to them other than give them a gentle rinse in mild soapy water.

Each piece is one of a kind and are really quite rare these days- a hard find!

Please look at the 5 pence piece for sizing guidance. It measures the same as the US dime in diameter - 18mm/0.7inch.

Please get in touch if you have any questions.

Many thanks.

Shipping & policies
Preparation takes 1-3 business days
Arrives from United Kingdom
Estimated Shipping
Shipping to
Zip or postal code

Orders ship within 2-3 business days of cleared payment received. I often dispatch on the same day.

Within the UK shipping is via 1st class Royal Mail and delivery estimate is 1-2 working days.

Outside the UK shipping is via Airmail, this typically takes:

- To Europe 3 to 5 working days
- To USA 7 - 10 working days, though often swifter.
- Elsewhere - please contact me for delivery estimate.

Airmail is the cheapest form of postage but is not trackable. I use this form of postage to keep costs lower for customers. The next cheapest form of postage (which is tracked) is Airsure, which they charge approximately £5 extra for on top of postage, regardless of the weight. Should you require a faster postal service (which is tracked) or insurance please contact me for a quote before purchasing or use the available 'upgrade' option.

Royal mail will not consider an item lost until 30 days after posting. If your item has not arrived in 30 days, I will refund you order. In the last 7 years (with approximately 3500 sales) only two items have been 'lost' in the post. A small handful have taken longer to arrive than the stated 7 - 10 working days, but have got there in the end.

I will happily combine postage to keep costs as low as possible.

Please be sure to enter your correct shipping address for purchases. In the event that Etsy and Paypal show two different addresses, your package will be shipped to the Etsy address.
